Some people
believe that the way leaders communicate depends on their age or
generation. In agreeing with this statement and taking
position by supporting the argument with credible sources such as peer-reviewed
articles on the web.I concur with the
phrase that communication of leaders depends on their age and generation. Myers
and Sadaghiani the great leaders explain that communication functions
in organizations and work-groups such as sharing of information, making right
decisions, influence, synchronization, inspiration, identification, and
interactive communication in a workplace are key determinants in maintaining
work relationships in the organizational structure. Those born between 1979 and
1994 are depicted as being very confident and absorbed in themselves.
Similarly, they do not have work ethic and loyalty. Through their increased
numbers into leadership of organizations, it has been speculated that their
communication and orientation skills are going to affect members of the
organization more so the baby boomers and X generation. Millennial are purported to carry out most of
their communication activities using social media. As leaders, they will need
to communicate with their staff using social media which is contrary to baby
boomers and Generation X who prefer face-to-face communication. Similarly,
Millennial are in support of open communication as opposed to the earlier
generations. Traditionally, supervisors communicated to managers and other
supervisors more as compared to subordinates . However, in the current
generation, leaders share information freely with their subordinate. This helps
in curbing intimidation which was experienced in the previous generations. From
the differences in leadership communication, it is important that organizations
employ mechanisms which will reduce the conflicts between generations so as to
realize the goals set by the organization.
